There is now a National Overdose Response Service (NORS) – an overdose prevention hotline for Canadians providing loving, confidential, non judgmental support. Canadians can call NORS at 1-888-688-NORS(6677) before they use drugs to connect with people who want to help them stay safe. This service is a result of the collective efforts of Grenfell Ministries, Brave Technology Coop, Dr. Monty Ghosh.
Please note: As of March 2021, it is unclear if this initiative has developed or implemented policies and procedures that would allow it to respond effectively to different contexts and situations (e.g., rural areas vs. urban areas, what happens if a caller has not overdosed but wants to keep talking, what local resources they might refer to). OHRN recognizes the need for this kind of service, but we also realize it is in its early stages of development.
